The mercury column is magnified to approximately 1/16" across, and by internal reflection it appears as a bright red for easier reading. It is lens front tubing, somewhat triangular in cross section.

• Total immersion.

Red liquid may be used where mercury is inadmissible. A red dyed petrolate is used. Its curve of expansion is plotted against certified thermometers and the inter-graduation space is narrowed gradually to fit this curve. (Any sudden variation in the intergraduation space indicates inaccuracy.)

Each is graduated to at least +20°C to avoid column separation, and has a large overflow chamber to protect against overheating damage. This range also available with Red Mercury Magnifying glass, or Yellowback glass. All are also available with Armor Case.
